+ How to Install Bread & Butter on Your Website
Connecting your website to Bread & Butter is the first step to activating your Lead Intelligence Engine. Once installed, our system immediately begins tracking user journeys, identifying high-intent prospects, and enriching your captured leads.
While there are several ways to integrate Bread & Butter, the method you choose directly impacts the accuracy of your LeadScore AI and the depth of your data. Depending on how your website is built, there are four main ways to install Bread & Butter.
1. WordPress (Recommended: Use the Official Plugin)
If your website is built on WordPress, use the official Bread & Butter WordPress plugin.
Installing the plugin unlocks our proprietary server-side tracking. As web browsers implement increasingly strict privacy restrictions (like blocking third-party cookies) and users adopt aggressive ad blockers, standard tracking scripts are losing massive amounts of data.
Our WordPress plugin bypasses these browser-level limitations completely by tracking events directly from your server. This guarantees highly precise analytics, ensures your LeadScore AI receives complete and unfiltered data, and automatically monitors your existing WordPress forms without any manual configuration.
Important Note on Peripheral Subdomains
Your Bread & Butter account allows for one primary root domain to use the WordPress plugin (e.g., yourwebsite.com ). If you operate peripheral subdomains, such as a support portal (help.yourwebsite.com ) or a client login area (app.yourwebsite.com ) you must use the standard JavaScript tracking script on those specific properties.
Unifying your tracking across your root domain and peripheral subdomains is highly recommended. It allows the LeadScore AI to connect the dots, tracking a user's complete, unbroken journey from their very first marketing touchpoint on your main website all the way through to their active usage of your software or support portals.
2. Universal Setup: Google Tag Manager & Custom Scripts
If you are not using WordPress (or if you are setting up a peripheral subdomain as mentioned above), the standard method for installing Bread & Butter is by placing our lightweight JavaScript snippet directly into the <head> section of your HTML.
You can find your unique tracking script by logging into your Bread & Butter dashboard and navigating to Settings > Advanced Settings.
Using Google Tag Manager (GTM)
For pereipheral sub-domains not running on Wordpress, we recommend deploying the Bread & Butter script via Google Tag Manager. This allows your marketing team to easily deploy our tracking code globally across your entire site without needing a developer to edit your website's source code.
