Install Bread & Butter on ClickFunnels

ClickFunnels keeps the whole funnel, opt-in, sales page, order form, upsells, and thank-you page, on the same domain by design, no redirect to a separate checkout provider the way most ecommerce platforms use. Bread & Butter takes advantage of that. One script, added once per funnel, tracks a visitor all the way from their first click through to a completed order.

In short: one script, added to each funnel's settings, connects that funnel to Bread & Butter, no plugin and no developer required. It shows you who's a genuine buyer, not just a pageview, and which ads or opt-in pages are actually driving qualified interest. Because ClickFunnels' order form sits on the same page as the rest of the funnel, Bread & Butter can identify a buyer there too, not just up to it.

Once it's running, Bread & Butter watches how real visitors move through your funnel, not just how many pages loaded. It identifies who's showing genuine buying intent, builds a profile of what they're interested in, and surfaces that to you as a ranked list of your best leads instead of a wall of traffic numbers. For a funnel-driven business, that means you can finally see which ads, opt-in pages, or offers are actually driving qualified interest, and which ones are just generating clicks that go nowhere.

This also means you get visibility further into checkout than on most platforms. ClickFunnels' order form keeps the email address field on the same page as the rest of the order, it isn't split off into a separate payment-processor page the way a typical ecommerce checkout is, so the tracking script installed on your funnel can identify a buyer there directly. The one exception is PayPal: if a visitor pays with PayPal, ClickFunnels hands them off to PayPal's own checkout, and Bread & Butter has no visibility into that step. For card payments through Stripe or another standard gateway, tracking continues straight through the order form.

Frequently asked questions for ClickFunnels

Does this work on any ClickFunnels plan? We haven't been able to confirm from ClickFunnels' public documentation whether Head Tracking Code is limited to certain plans. Check under your funnel's Settings tab to confirm you have access to the Head Tracking Code field.

Do I need to add this to every funnel, or just once for my whole account? Each funnel, currently there's no account-wide or workspace-level setting. If you run multiple funnels, add the tracking script to each one's Settings tab individually.

Will this interfere with Stripe, PayPal, or my checkout? No. Bread & Butter's tracking never touches payment processing or card data, regardless of which pages it runs on.

Can you identify someone on the order form, before they finish checking out? Yes, for standard card payments. ClickFunnels' order form has the email address as a normal field on the same page as the rest of the order, not split off into a separate payment page, so Bread & Butter can identify a buyer there directly. This doesn't apply if a visitor pays with PayPal, since that hands off to PayPal's own page.

Do I need a developer to install this? No. It's a copy-and-paste step into your funnel's Head Tracking Code field, the same place you'd add Google Analytics or a Facebook Pixel.

Does this work with a custom domain, or only a clickfunnels.com or myclickfunnels.com subdomain? Either. The tracking script is embedded in the page itself, so it works the same way regardless of what domain your funnel is published under.

Does this track my native opt-in pages and forms too? Yes. Opt-in pages are core to how ClickFunnels works, and if a visitor submits one, Bread & Butter identifies them and connects that to the rest of their activity across the funnel.

Bread & Butter Conversion Tools: If you want a dedicated on-site tool to capture emails or identify visitors, beyond your native opt-in forms, Bread & Butter also offers its own suite of optional Conversion Tools, floating lead capture forms with one-click social login, content gating for premium assets, and AI-triggered incentive popups, that plug directly into your Bread & Butter account, no separate app required. See our Conversion Tools overview for the full list.

What if traffic comes from a separate domain before it reaches my ClickFunnels funnel? This is common, for example ads or a main website on WordPress or Squarespace that link into a ClickFunnels funnel hosted on its own domain. Bread & Butter doesn't use cookies, it uses a GDPR-compliant identifier stored locally in the visitor's browser. Install the same tracking script on each domain, and Bread & Butter reconciles the activity into one visitor journey, even across different platforms.

Installation Steps

Because ClickFunnels tracking code is set per funnel, repeat these steps for each funnel you want to track.

Step 1: Get your tracking script

  • Log into your Bread & Butter Dashboard
  • Go to Settings > App & Domains
  • Add your ClickFunnels subdomain or custom domain
  • Copy the JavaScript tracking snippet provided (it includes your unique App ID)

If you're already using Google Tag Manager, this is the easiest and most reliable way to install Bread & Butter, and it's the method we recommend. See our full Google Tag Manager installation guide for more detail. Note that GTM's container snippet also goes into each funnel's Head Tracking Code field, so you'll still need to add it once per funnel.

Step 2: Add the script as a GTM tag

  • In your GTM container, create a new tag and choose Custom HTML
  • Paste the Bread & Butter tracking snippet into the tag
  • Set the trigger to All Pages
  • Save and Submit to publish the container

Step 3: Confirm it's working

  • Open your live ClickFunnels funnel in a new browser or incognito window
  • Return to your Bread & Butter Dashboard and confirm visitor data is coming in

Alternative: Manual install via Head Tracking Code

If you're not using Google Tag Manager, install directly in ClickFunnels instead.

Step 2: Add it to ClickFunnels

  • Log into ClickFunnels
  • Open the funnel you want to track and go to its Settings tab
  • Find the Head Tracking Code section
  • Paste the tracking script
  • Scroll down and click Save And Update Settings

Step 3: Confirm it's working

  • Open your live ClickFunnels funnel in a new browser or incognito window
  • Return to your Bread & Butter Dashboard and confirm visitor data is coming in

Troubleshooting: If data isn't showing up, double-check that your App ID in the script matches your dashboard, confirm your live ClickFunnels URL is listed under Settings > Advanced Settings > Website Domains, and make sure you've added the script to every funnel you want tracked, not just one.
