Installing the Bread & Butter plugin on your WordPress site takes only a few clicks. Whether you are running a standard website or a complex application, this single plugin is all you need to get started.

Option 1: Install via WordPress Search (Recommended)

This is the easiest way to install the Bread & Butter plugin.

  1. Search: Open your WordPress admin and go to Plugins > Add New.
  2. Find: In the search bar on the top right, type "Bread & Butter".
  3. Install: Locate the Bread & Butter plugin in the search results and click Install Now.
  4. Activate: Once the installation finishes, the button changes to Activate. Click it to complete the setup.

Connecting Your Website to Bread & Butter

Once the plugin is installed and activated, you are prompted to complete your First-time configuration, which connects your website to your Bread & Butter account.

Connecting the site is the step that switches everything on. From that point the plugin captures submissions to your existing forms, delivers the data server to server from your own domain, and Focused Score starts rating your visitors.

  1. Under the Connect your Website step, use Option 1: Automatic Setup.
  2. Enter your email address and click Connect with Email, or click Continue with Google. This links your site to Deep Profile Enrichment in under 30 seconds.

💡 Pro Tip: Choosing your account email: If you manage multiple websites or clients, use a primary email address that works across all of your websites. Bread & Butter never charges per seat, so you can invite additional admin users later.

Congratulations, You Are Fully Connected

There are no more mandatory steps before you start capturing data. It is worth running a quick test, though:

  1. Visit your website and fill out one of your existing lead forms just as a normal visitor would.
  2. Open your Bread & Butter dashboard to confirm that the captured data appears.

While optional onboarding steps exist to help maximize your intelligence engine, your core setup is complete.

Troubleshooting: No Activity in the Bread & Butter Dashboard?

If you installed the plugin and connected your website but do not see visits in the dashboard, check the following:

  1. Clear your cache. This is the most common issue. If you use a caching plugin (such as WP Rocket or Autoptimize) or have server-side caching, clear it immediately after installation.
  2. Test in Incognito. Visits from a WordPress Administrator account are not tracked, so open your site in an Incognito/Private window to generate a fresh test visit.
  3. Check for conflicts. Make sure you have not also installed Bread & Butter through Google Tag Manager. Running both at once causes errors.
  4. Verify the connection. In your WordPress admin, go to Bread & Butter and confirm that the status says "Connected".

Using WooCommerce or MemberPress? You do not need a separate plugin or a custom setup. Follow the standard WordPress installation above and the plugin works with your ecommerce or membership tools as they are.

Option 2: Manual ZIP Installation

This method is best if you prefer to handle the files yourself.

  1. Download: Get the latest version here: Download Bread & Butter ZIP
  2. Upload: Open your WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New and click the Upload Plugin button at the top.
  3. Install: Choose the bread-butter.zip  file and click Install Now.
  4. Activate: Once installation finishes, click Activate Plugin. You are ready to connect your site as described above.
