Install Bread & Butter on Weebly

Weebly doesn't have a plugin ecosystem the way WordPress does, so most tools that promise deeper insight into your visitors need custom development work to connect. Bread & Butter doesn't. It installs the same way Google Analytics does, one script pasted into your site's header, and it works with the site you already built, including Weebly's native contact forms and its built-in shopping cart.

In short: one script in your Weebly header connects your site to Bread & Butter, no plugin and no developer required. From there it shows you who's a genuine buyer, not just a pageview, which products or campaigns are actually driving qualified interest, and how far visitors get on their way to checkout.

Once it's running, Bread & Butter watches how real visitors move through your site, not just how many pages loaded. It identifies who's showing genuine buying intent, builds a profile of what they're interested in, and surfaces that to you as a ranked list of your best leads instead of a wall of traffic numbers. For a store or service business built on Weebly, that means you can finally see which products, pages, or campaigns are actually driving qualified interest, and which ones are just generating clicks that go nowhere.

This also means you get visibility into how far visitors get before checkout. Bread & Butter tracks the full journey through your site, including reaching the cart, so you can see where interest builds and where it stalls before someone commits to buying. Once checkout itself begins, our script stops, by design, for security reasons, so it never touches the payment step. If a visitor has already identified themselves earlier in their visit, for example by filling out a contact form, you'll know who reached the cart. If they haven't, you'll still see that the cart was reached, just not by whom.

Frequently asked questions for Weebly

Does this work on Weebly's free plan? Yes. Adding the header code, which is all the install requires, is available on Weebly's free tier the same way it is for tools like Google Analytics or Search Console verification.

Will this interfere with Square Payments or my checkout? No. Bread & Butter's tracking stops once checkout begins, by design, for security reasons. It never sees payment processing, card data, or anything inside your Square integration. Square continues to handle payments exactly as it does today.

This is a platform restriction, not a Bread & Butter limitation. Square Online (Weebly's checkout system) doesn't allow any custom code or tracking tags on its checkout pages, for anyone, not just Bread & Butter. Square's own support team has confirmed this is intentional and for security reasons, so no tracking or analytics tool can access that step.

Can you see who abandons their cart? Bread & Butter tracks that a visitor reached the cart, but it can't identify them there on its own, no email is captured at that step. If that same visitor identified themselves earlier in the visit, for instance by filling out a contact form, you'll know who they are and that they reached the cart. If they never identified themselves, you'll see the cart was reached without a name attached to it.

Do I need a developer to install this? No. It's the same copy-and-paste step you'd use to add Google Analytics, into the Header Code field under Settings > SEO.

Does this work with a custom domain, or only a weebly.com subdomain? Either. The tracking script is embedded in the page itself, so it works the same way regardless of what domain your site is published under.

Does this track my native Weebly contact forms too? Yes. If a visitor fills out a contact form, Bread & Butter identifies them and connects that to the rest of their browsing activity on your site.

Bread & Butter Conversion Tools: If you want a dedicated on-site tool to capture emails or identify visitors, beyond your native forms, Bread & Butter also offers its own suite of optional Conversion Tools, floating lead capture forms with one-click social login, content gating for premium assets, and AI-triggered incentive popups, that plug directly into your Bread & Butter account, no separate app required. See our Conversion Tools overview for the full list.

What if my checkout runs on a separate domain or subdomain, possibly on different technology? This is common, for example a main site on WordPress with checkout on a separate Weebly or Square-hosted domain. Bread & Butter doesn't use cookies, it uses a GDPR-compliant identifier stored locally in the visitor's browser. Install the same tracking script on each domain, and Bread & Butter reconciles the activity into one visitor journey, even across different platforms.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Get your tracking script

  • Log into your Bread & Butter Dashboard
  • Go to Settings > App & Domains
  • Add your Weebly subdomain or custom domain
  • Copy the JavaScript tracking snippet provided (it includes your unique App ID)

If you're already using Google Tag Manager on your Weebly site, this is the easiest and most reliable way to install Bread & Butter, and it's the method we recommend. See our full Google Tag Manager installation guide for more detail.

Step 2: Add the script as a GTM tag

  • In your GTM container, create a new tag and choose Custom HTML
  • Paste the Bread & Butter tracking snippet into the tag
  • Set the trigger to All Pages
  • Save and Submit to publish the container

Step 3: Confirm it's working

  • Open your live Weebly site in a new browser or incognito window
  • Return to your Bread & Butter Dashboard and confirm visitor data is coming in

Managing the script through GTM also means future updates or changes to your tracking setup don't require editing your Weebly site directly.

Alternative: Manual install via Weebly's Header Code

If you're not using Google Tag Manager, install directly in Weebly instead.

Step 2: Add it to Weebly

  • Log into your Weebly site editor
  • Go to Settings > SEO
  • Find the "Header Code" field
  • Paste the tracking script there

Step 3: Publish

  • Click Save
  • Click Publish (top right) to push the change live

Step 4: Confirm it's working

  • Open your live Weebly site in a new browser or incognito window
  • Return to your Bread & Butter Dashboard and confirm visitor data is coming in

Troubleshooting: If data isn't showing up, double-check that your App ID in the script matches your dashboard, and confirm your live Weebly URL is listed under Settings > Advanced Settings > Website Domains.
