What is Bread & Butter and why should I install it on my website?
Bread & Butter shows you who's buying on your website, then helps you find more of them. It records how every visitor moves through your website, keeping the bots out of your Focused visitors, scores how ready each one looks to buy, and the moment someone raises a hand, researches who they are and sends them to your team with everything they did before. Every deal you close teaches it who to look for next. Its job is to show you what actually turns into revenue, not just traffic.

In short: Google Analytics tells you how many people arrived. Your CRM tells you who eventually became a customer. Bread & Butter covers the middle. From the first visit, it records each visitor's journey, keeps the bots out of your Focused visitors, and gives every visitor a Focused Score from 1 to 10 on how ready to buy they look. Nobody is named until they raise a hand, through one of your forms, a newsletter, a checkout or Bread & Butter's one-click conversion tools. From that moment the person is researched, and arrives in your CRM or Slack as an Intelligence Brief, updated every time they come back. Key events flow back into Google Analytics, your Google Ads campaigns are measured by the buyers they bring, and you can ask your AI assistant anything about your visitors. It installs as a WordPress plugin or one tracking code pasted once, and it works with the forms you already have.
How it works, in five stages
01 Records every visit. From the first visit, Bread & Butter records each visitor's journey on one record that lasts for years, not 60 days: every page, every return visit, and the source and campaign that brought them each time, with the bots kept out of your Focused visitors. More under Why do I need it if I already have Google Analytics and a CRM? and How does it keep bots and spam out? below.
02 It finds the hand-raisers. Every visitor gets a Focused Score from 1 to 10 from AI scoring on your ideal customer profile. It's automatic and always learning: it scores every visit as it happens and refines your ideal customer with every deal you close. The people reading your website closely fill your Focused Tab. Nobody is named until they raise a hand, through one of your forms, a newsletter, a checkout or Bread & Butter's one-click conversion tools. More under How do I know which visitors are ready to buy? below.
03 Researches & delivers where you work. The moment someone raises a hand, they're researched across LinkedIn, public profiles, corporate databases and the open internet, and they arrive in your CRM, Slack or email as an Intelligence Brief, updated every time they come back. More under What happens when a visitor raises a hand? below.
04 Finds more like them. Every deal you mark Won/Closed teaches Bread & Butter who your buyers are, and Focused Score sharpens with each one. It also finds lookalike prospects: not a stale list, but a steady drip of new people who look like your buyers, a few every other day, refined on the same ideal customer profile, each researched and with a first email drafted. See How Bread & Butter finds lookalike prospects from your best closed deals.
05 Answers anything you ask. Connect your AI assistant and ask anything about your visitors, or run ready-made reports, starting with the Report for Your Boss, and put them on a schedule so they arrive on their own. On the Pro and Pro Plus plans, every report is also built for you once a month and emailed to your team. More under What else does it connect to? below.
Why do I need it if I already have Google Analytics and a CRM?
Google Analytics shows you how people arrive on your website. Your CRM shows you who eventually becomes a customer. What neither shows is the part in between: the visits, pages and weeks of reading before someone fills in a form.
Bread & Butter records that invisible middle, from the first visit to the sale. You see which channels, campaigns and pages bring the people who go on to buy, so you can keep what works and drop what doesn't.
Because each journey is joined to the person once they raise a hand, rather than to a cookie, it holds up over years rather than months. See Why can Bread & Butter track a lead's full journey for years, when CRMs and cookie-based tools lose the trail after a few months?
How does it keep bots and spam out?
Bots and scrapers now make up more of the web than people do. Imperva's 2026 Bad Bot Report found that bots account for more than 53% of all web traffic, with 40% classified as malicious. Standard analytics count every one of those as a visit, which inflates your numbers and clutters your pipeline.
Bread & Butter keeps bots out of your Focused visitors and Engaged Leads: a bot scores 0, so it's never Focused. All Traffic still shows everything that reached your website, bots included, so you can see what's hitting it. The Focused Tab goes further: it also leaves out your own team, your existing customers and the visits that leave in seconds, so what remains are the real people reading your website closely.
Your Focused Ratio shows what share of your traffic is Focused, and you can compare it against the Focused Index, the same measure across all Bread & Butter websites. A healthy Focused Ratio sits between 10% and 20%.
How do I know which visitors are ready to buy?
Focused Score ranks every visitor from 1 to 10. Instead of rules someone wrote by hand, such as "+5 points for visiting the pricing page", it learns from how people actually behave on your website.
- Unique to your website. Scores are relative to your own pages and your own traffic.
- From the first visit. Scoring starts straight away, and the Focused Tab fills as soon as visitors score 6 or higher. What takes 15 days is calibration: establishing your Focused Ratio so it can be compared against the Focused Index.
- It learns from your wins. When you mark a lead Won/Closed, Focused Score looks back over their whole journey and sharpens what it knows about your buyers. Marking Won/Closed is the single habit that improves scoring the most, so it's worth reading how Lead Stages work before you start.
What happens when a visitor raises a hand?
Nobody is named while they browse. The moment someone gives you their email address, through one of your forms, a newsletter, a checkout or one of Bread & Butter's conversion tools, their whole journey so far is joined to them, and the work starts:
- Research. Profile Enrichment researches who they are and the company behind them: their role and seniority, a summary of their background, company news and buying triggers. It works from a work address or a personal one, Gmail included. The research is live, not pulled from a static contact list, and it runs again when they come back.
- The Intelligence Brief. A one-page write-up for your team: who they are, what they read, why now, and a first line to open with. It lands in your CRM or Slack and is updated every time they return. See The Intelligence Brief.
- The Intelligence Stream. The complete record behind the Brief, every session and page, for teams that want it in their own data warehouse. See The Intelligence Stream.
- A drafted email. Nurture drafts a one-to-one email from the research and the journey. A person on your team reviews it and sends it from their own Gmail or Outlook. It isn't a replacement for your email marketing; it's for the few people worth a personal note. See How does Nurture AI work, and does it replace our email marketing?
What else does it connect to?
- Google Analytics. Key events, such as a new Engaged Lead, flow back into Google Analytics 4. See Connect Google Analytics (GA4).
- Google Ads. Campaigns and keywords are measured by the buyers they bring, not by clicks, with a Scale, Watch or Investigate verdict on each. See Connect Google Ads.
- Your AI assistant. Through the Bread & Butter MCP server, you can ask Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot anything about your visitors and run ready-made reports, starting with the Report for Your Boss, or have them arrive on a schedule. See Bread & Butter MCP server connections and Run your Bread & Butter reports on a schedule.
What doesn't it do?
- It doesn't name visitors who haven't raised a hand, by IP address or any other method. See How is Bread & Butter different from "visitor identification" tools that track people without consent?
- It doesn't sell your data. The journeys recorded on your website belong to you. See Who owns the data I collect, and do you resell it?
- It doesn't use third-party cookies.
Will installing it break my website or need a developer?
No. Bread & Butter is built for marketers, not engineers.
- No code. On WordPress, the plugin does the whole install. On Webflow, Shopify, Squarespace and the rest, you paste one tracking code once. See How to Install Bread & Butter on Your Website.
- Fully first-party on WordPress. With the plugin, the visitor's browser only ever talks to your own website, so content blockers have nothing to block. The tracking code on other platforms gives you everything else the same way. See Server-Side vs. Browser-Side Tracking.
- Works with your existing forms. There's nothing to rebuild and no fields to map. Bread & Butter works with the forms already on your website, including HubSpot, WPForms, Elementor and Gravity Forms. See How Bread & Butter works with your existing forms & subscribe widgets.
- Nothing to configure. Scoring, bot filtering and research start on their own.
What's the bottom line?
Data doesn't drive revenue; action does. Bread & Butter doesn't just measure what happened. It tells your sales and marketing teams who is ready, what they read and what to say, so you can grow without adding headcount.
If you have to set up a template, write a rule or map a field, we've failed. Install it, and it works.
Install it, let it run through your 30-day free trial, then book a call with us before the trial ends and we'll go through your own data with you.
