Install Bread & Butter on Lightspeed eCom

Lightspeed eCom powers everything from product browsing to checkout, and Bread & Butter connects the same simple way it connects to Google Analytics or HubSpot: one script, no plugin.

In short: one script connects your Lightspeed eCom store to Bread & Butter, no plugin and no developer required. It shows you who's a genuine prospect, not just a pageview, and which pages or campaigns are actually driving qualified interest. It works alongside Lightspeed's native customer accounts and newsletter tools.

Once it's running, Bread & Butter watches how real visitors move through your store, not just how many pages loaded. It identifies who's showing genuine interest, builds a profile of what they're interested in, and surfaces that to you as a ranked list of your best leads instead of a wall of traffic numbers. For a store built on Lightspeed eCom, that means you can finally see which products, pages, or campaigns are actually driving qualified interest, and which ones are just generating clicks that go nowhere.

Lightspeed currently runs two eCom generations side by side, C-Series (the long-standing platform) and E-Series (Lightspeed's newer flagship, currently rolling out to certain North American merchants). The install steps differ slightly between them, so this guide covers both.

Frequently asked questions for Lightspeed eCom

Does this work on any Lightspeed eCom plan? We haven't been able to confirm a plan restriction on adding the tracking script itself.

Do I need a developer to install this? No. It's a copy-and-paste step into Lightspeed's custom code area, the same place you'd add Google Analytics or a similar tracking tool.

Does this work with a custom domain, or only a Lightspeed-hosted subdomain? Either. The tracking script is embedded in the page itself, so it works the same way regardless of what domain your store is published under.

Does this track visitors who create a customer account or sign up for your newsletter? Yes. Both native customer account creation and newsletter signup happen on your own Lightspeed domain, so Bread & Butter identifies a visitor through either path the same way it picks up any other native form fill.

Can you see who reaches checkout? We haven't been able to fully confirm from Lightspeed's public documentation whether the tracking script's coverage extends into the checkout and order-confirmation pages specifically. Since the script is applied site-wide through the same custom-code area used for the rest of your store, treat checkout visibility as something worth confirming in your own account.

Bread & Butter Conversion Tools: If you want a dedicated on-site tool to capture emails or identify visitors before they reach checkout, Bread & Butter also offers its own suite of optional Conversion Tools, floating lead capture forms with one-click social login, content gating for premium assets, and AI-triggered incentive popups, that plug directly into your Bread & Butter account, no separate app required. See our Conversion Tools overview for the full list.

What if my main website and my Lightspeed eCom store run on separate domains? This is common, for example a main site on one domain with a store hosted on a separate Lightspeed-branded domain or subdomain. Bread & Butter doesn't use cookies, it uses a GDPR-compliant identifier stored locally in the visitor's browser. Install the same tracking script on each domain, and Bread & Butter reconciles the activity into one visitor journey, even across different platforms.

Step 4: Confirm it's working

  • Open your live store in a new browser or incognito window

Alternative: Manual install via custom code

If you're not using Google Tag Manager, install directly in Lightspeed instead.

Step 2: Add it to Lightspeed

  • C-Series: Back Office > Settings > Web extras > Custom Head Code > Add code, and paste the tracking script
  • E-Series: Back Office > SEO settings > Header meta tags and site verification > Add Code, and paste the tracking script

Troubleshooting: If data isn't showing up, double-check that your App ID in the script matches your dashboard, and confirm your live Lightspeed URL is listed under Settings > Advanced Settings > Website Domains. If you're not sure whether your store is on C-Series or E-Series, check with Lightspeed support, the admin menu layout differs slightly between the two.
