Bread & Butter MCP server connections
Bread & Butter connects to the AI assistant you already use, so you can ask questions about your visitors, leads, pages and campaigns in plain English and get the answer back as a report. It works through the Bread & Butter MCP server: every assistant, and everyone, uses the same address, and you approve the connection with your own Bread & Butter account.
In short: Add the Bread & Butter MCP server, https://mcp.breadbutter.io, to your AI assistant as a custom connector (Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini and Mistral Vibe all support this), then approve the connection with your Bread & Butter account. From then on, ask your assistant anything about your website's visitors, leads, pages and campaigns, or ask it to run one of the Bread & Butter reports by name. The reports come from Bread & Butter, so there's nothing to download. Your assistant sees the same data you see in Bread & Butter, nothing more, and it can't change anything.
What you can ask
Anything about the data in your Bread & Butter account: who visited, who raised their hand, what they read, which campaigns and keywords brought them, and where they went next. A few examples:
- "Of the Engaged Leads researched this month, how many are VP or above, where do they work, and what did they read before they raised their hand?"
- "Which keywords should I put more budget on, and which ones bring visitors who never come back?"
- "Which pages do my Engaged Leads read most, and which campaigns brought them?"
- "Where do visitors go when they leave my website?"
Your assistant answers in a few lines and can build the answer into a report with charts and recommendations.
The Bread & Butter reports
For the questions most teams ask every week or every month, there are ready-made reports. Your assistant gets each one from Bread & Butter when you ask for it, and the reports it offers follow your role.
For sales (Sales, Marketer, Administrator and Owner):
- Leads to follow up: who came back this week, who is ready to call and why, and who is going cold. Run it weekly.
- Leads we found for you: where the Engaged Leads came from, how they raised their hand and who they are. Run it monthly.
For marketing (Marketer, Administrator and Owner):
- Scorecard: one measure for one stage of your funnel, by traffic source, page, location or exit destination, with today, the last 7, 30 and 90 days, the year and all time side by side. Run it daily or weekly.
- Attribution & Leads: which sources, campaigns and pages bring Focused visitors and Engaged Leads. See Attribution & Leads report.
- Ads Spend: what your paid traffic costs per visitor worth having, with a Scale, Watch or Investigate verdict on each campaign and keyword, up to three budget shifts at the same total spend, and a timeline of the budget changes you made and what they did. This one needs your Google Ads account connected.
- Exit Destinations: where visitors go when they leave your website, and how much business your website sends your partners.
- AI Assistants & GEO: the visitors AI assistants send you, the pages they land on, and the AI crawlers reading your website.
- Old School Website Analytics: traffic, pages, sources, locations, devices and returning visitors, the way a standard analytics tool shows them, counted properly: bots are left out of every number.
Ask for any report by name and give it a period, for example "Run my Bread & Butter Attribution & Leads report for last month", or ask for all of them at once: "Run all my Bread & Butter reports for last month." Name the website if your account has more than one.
Every card in a report ends with a question to ask your assistant next, and everyone listed in a report links to their profile in Bread & Butter. To have a report arrive on its own every week or every month, see Run your Bread & Butter reports on a schedule.
The Bread & Butter MCP server address
Every assistant, and everyone on every account, uses the same address:
https://mcp.breadbutter.io
Which websites your assistant can see is decided by the Bread & Butter account you approve the connection with, not by the address. You'll also find the address, with a copy button and the steps for each assistant, in Bread & Butter under Profile, then Connections.
Before you start
- Your plan. Connecting an AI assistant is part of the Pro plan and the free trial. On the Free plan, the Insights tab shows an Upgrade to connect button instead.
- Credits. Each question your assistant asks Bread & Butter uses credits, and so does each report it runs. See How do Credits work across storage, syncing, and profile enrichment?
- Your own account. Each person on your team connects their own assistant with their own Bread & Butter account.
Claude
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
- Give it a name, such as "Bread & Butter", and paste the Bread & Butter MCP server address.
- Approve the connection with your Bread & Butter account when Claude asks.
- Choose the Bread & Butter accounts (websites) you want Claude to use.
Bread & Butter now appears in your list of connectors. Make sure it's switched on in a conversation before you ask your question.
ChatGPT
Custom connectors are available on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode. Bread & Butter needs it to run reports; without it, ChatGPT can only search.
- Back in Apps & Connectors, choose Create.
- Give it a name, paste the Bread & Butter MCP server address, and set Authentication to OAuth.
- Approve the connection with your Bread & Butter account when ChatGPT asks.
On Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, an admin may need to allow custom connectors first.
Microsoft Copilot
In Microsoft 365, Bread & Butter connects through an agent built in Copilot Studio. Setting it up usually needs whoever manages Copilot for your company. Once the agent is published, everyone on your team can use it.
- In Copilot Studio, open your agent, then Tools, and choose Add a tool, then New tool, then Model Context Protocol.
- Enter a name, a short description (for example "Bread & Butter: website visitors, leads, pages and campaigns") and the Bread & Butter MCP server address.
- For how it connects, choose OAuth 2.0, then Dynamic discovery.
- Choose Create a new connection, approve it with your Bread & Butter account, then choose Add to agent.
Each person who uses the agent approves the connection with their own Bread & Butter account the first time.
Gemini
- In the Gemini web app, open Settings, then Connected Apps, and add a custom app.
- Paste the Bread & Butter MCP server address.
- Approve the connection with your Bread & Butter account when Gemini asks.
Custom apps are added in the web app. Once added, Bread & Butter is also available in the Gemini mobile app. On Gemini Enterprise, an admin adds it under Connected apps.
Mistral Vibe (formerly Le Chat)
- In Vibe, open Connectors, choose Add Connector, then the Custom MCP Connector tab.
- Enter a name, paste the Bread & Butter MCP server address and add a short description.
- Approve the connection with your Bread & Butter account. Vibe detects how to connect on its own.
What your assistant can see
- The same data you see. Your assistant sees the Bread & Butter accounts you chose when you connected, with the same permissions your role has in Bread & Butter. The reports follow your role too: Sales runs the two sales reports, and Accounting has none. Asking for a report your role can't run returns a short note saying which role can. See What are the different team roles, and what do they have access to?
- Nothing it can change. The connection is read only. Your assistant can look things up and build reports, but it can't edit, delete or send anything in Bread & Butter.
- Your plan's limits. Anything your plan hides in the dashboard stays hidden from your assistant too.
- Bots are left out. Every number excludes bots, the same as your dashboard.
- The same numbers as your dashboard. Your assistant and the dashboard use the same definitions, so a Focused visitor or an Engaged Lead means the same thing in both.
Disconnecting
In Bread & Butter, open Profile, then Connections, and choose Disconnect. You can also remove Bread & Butter from your assistant's connector list. Either one stops your assistant from reaching your data straight away.
