How does the Engaged Leads tab capture data, and why is the profile enrichment so much more accurate than traditional tracking tools?
The Engaged Tab is built to give your marketing team the most accurate, reliable data possible, entirely eliminating the guessing games and creepy surveillance tactics of the past. It achieves this through a mix of seamless integration, ethical marketing, and verified authentication.
In short: The Engaged Tab automatically captures verified profiles from any point on your site where an email address is captured, existing forms, subscribe widgets, newsletter signups, and authenticated social logins. Because those profiles are the same identity layer that powers your traffic, analytics, and trend data, they can't be deleted the way CRM records can. You can still upload your own lists into Bread & Butter, but a list upload on its own doesn't make someone an Engaged Lead, that status is reserved for profiles built from real, verified on-site activity. If you reach your account's stored profile limit, Bread & Butter offers an automatic upgrade path so data capture never has to stop.
Here is exactly how the Engaged Leads Tab works and why the data is different:
-
Automatic Capture from Existing Forms:
Bread & Butter works with what you already have. It seamlessly captures visitors directly from the existing forms on your website, moving them right into your Engaged audience. This means you do not have to rebuild your infrastructure or change your workflow to start collecting data.
-
Real-Time Capture, Anywhere You Collect an Email:
It's not limited to your main lead forms. Any point on your site where a visitor's email address is captured, a subscribe widget, a newsletter signup, a gated content download, is automatically processed the same way. The moment that submission happens, Bread & Butter links it directly to the visitor's existing session and traffic history. There's no separate tracking pixel to install and no change to your form's code or workflow. If it's already live on your site and it captures an email, it's already feeding your Engaged audience.
-
Verified Profiles via Social Logins:
Standard web forms are notoriously unreliable because visitors constantly enter fake information (like test@test.com or a fake phone number) just to get past the gate. To solve this, Bread & Butter offers advanced conversion boosters like social logins. By allowing visitors to frictionlessly authenticate using their existing Google, Microsoft, or LinkedIn credentials, you capture a verified profile. Because it is incredibly difficult to fake these established accounts, the data you receive is authentic, up to date, and tied to a real professional.
-
Ethical Marketing Over IP Guessing Games:
Old school legacy reverse IP lookup products try to figure out who is on your site by secretly tracking a network IP address and making an assumption about what company owns it. Not only is this a probabilistic guessing game that frequently fails in today's landscape of remote work, mobile data, and VPNs, but it also relies on creepy marketing techniques and background surveillance.
Bread & Butter champions ethical marketing. Our profile enrichment is built on public information, nothing that violates privacy policies, and never through third-party cookies that reverse-engineer a visitor's device to track their movement across the web. Combined with the verified data captured directly from your existing forms, subscribe widgets, and social logins, your marketing team gets exact, actionable intelligence instead of assumptions.

Why Profiles Can't Be Deleted:
Unlike a CRM, a Bread & Butter profile isn't just a contact record you can remove at will. Once a profile is tied to real visitor activity, it stays connected to that visitor's full traffic history, attribution data, and engagement trends, and deleting it would mean deleting a piece of your site's actual analytics history. For that reason, profiles can't be manually removed.
You can still upload your own lists into Bread & Butter. A list upload doesn't automatically make someone an Engaged Lead, though, that designation is reserved for profiles built from real, verified on-site activity, like a form submission or an authenticated social login. Uploaded contacts stay separate unless they actually show up and engage.
This also means storage works differently than a CRM's contact list. When an account reaches its maximum number of stored profiles, Bread & Butter doesn't ask you to delete old ones to make room. Instead, it automatically offers a path to upgrade, so your traffic data and lead history stay intact and capture continues without interruption.
