How does the Engaged Leads tab capture data, and why is the profile enrichment so much more accurate than traditional tracking tools?

The Engaged Leads tab is built to give your marketing team the most reliable data it can have, without the guesswork of tools that try to work out who a visitor is from their network address. It does that by capturing from what you already have on your site, verifying what comes in, and researching only people who have chosen to tell you who they are.

In short: an Engaged Lead is created from any point on your site where a visitor gives you their email address: your existing forms, subscribe widgets, gated content, checkout, and one-click social logins. Nothing new to install; if it is live on your site and it captures an email, it is already feeding the Engaged Leads tab. Every address is verified in real time before it becomes a lead, and the moment it does, the visitor's whole journey up to that point is stitched to the profile and enrichment starts. Uploaded lists sit at the Prospect stage and become Engaged Leads when those people reach your site. Profiles are part of your site's history, so they cannot be deleted from the account, though a visitor can disconnect their own identity through the Privacy Manager.

Where Engaged Leads Come From

Your existing forms. Bread & Butter works with what you already have. Submissions to the forms on your website are captured and the visitor moves into your Engaged audience, with no rebuilding, no new form and no change to your workflow.

Anywhere else you collect an email. A subscribe widget, a gated download, a webinar registration, a checkout. Any point on your site where an email address is captured is processed the same way. The moment the submission happens, Bread & Butter links it to the visitor's existing session and traffic history. There is no separate pixel to install and no change to the form's code.

Social logins. Plain forms are easy to fill in badly, with test@test.com or a throwaway inbox to get past a gate. Bread & Butter's conversion tools can offer one-click social logins alongside the email field, so a visitor who already has Google, Microsoft or LinkedIn open in their browser converts with a verified name and a working address, and on a company account, their work email. See Does using social logins instead of a simple email field decrease my conversion quantity?

Uploaded lists. You can upload your own contacts. They land at the Prospect lead stage rather than as Engaged Leads, because that status is reserved for people who acted on your site. When an uploaded contact shows up and engages, they move to Engaged Leads with their journey attached. See How do Lead Stages work in Bread & Butter, and why does marking Won/Closed matter?

Why the Data Is Different

It is verified at the door. Every captured address passes through Real-Time Email Verification before it becomes a lead: dead inboxes, disposable addresses, keyboard mashes, alias tricks and shared role inboxes are caught and kept out of the tab. See How does Real-Time Email Verification protect my Focused Tab?

It starts with something the visitor gave you. Reverse-IP tools guess which company a visitor might belong to from a network address, and in a world of remote work, mobile data and VPNs the guess is often wrong and can never tell you who the person was. Bread & Butter names nobody until they act. When they do, the profile is built from the address they chose to give you, and enrichment researches the person and their company from public professional information, never by following them across the web with third-party cookies. See How is Bread & Butter different from "visitor identification" tools that track people without consent?

It carries the journey. Because the same first-party tracking recorded every session before the conversion, an Engaged Lead arrives with their history: which pages they read, how deeply, how many times they came back, and where they came from each time. That is what lets Focused Score rate them on what they did rather than on who they say they are.

What You Can and Cannot Remove

A Bread & Butter profile is not just a contact record. Once it is tied to real visitor activity it is part of your site's traffic history, attribution and engagement trends, and removing it would remove a piece of your analytics. For that reason profiles cannot be deleted from the account.

Two things follow from that. First, a visitor who wants to be forgotten can disconnect their own identity through the Privacy Manager, which severs the link between the person and the journey while the visit history itself stays in your analytics with no name attached. See Privacy Manager: how visitors can disconnect themselves from their data. Second, storage works differently from a CRM contact list. When you reach your plan's stored-profile allowance, nothing is deleted to make room; what happens next is explained in Are there limits on the number of visitors or leads I can capture?
