Which Bread & Butter emails will I get, and how do I change them?
Bread & Butter sends a handful of emails, each with its own job: one when a lead raises a hand, a Roundup of who's worth calling, your reports, and a few account notices. You decide which ones you get, how often, and for which website. This article lists every email, who gets it on each plan, and where to change it.

In short: There are seven kinds of Bread & Butter email, and you set each one per website under your profile, on the Notifications tab, or from the Manage email preferences link at the bottom of any email. The Intelligence Brief is one email per lead, the moment they raise a hand; it's off until you turn it on. The Roundup goes to everyone on the account: What's interesting, your top three leads, your lookalikes and your sales reports, weekly by default. The Reports email goes to Owners, Administrators and Marketers: your Focused Ratio, what stands out and every report, monthly by default. Getting started, System and Product updates can be turned off; Account alerts and billing can't. Turning an email off keeps your choice, so turning it back on picks up where you left off.
Where to change them
In the app: open your profile (Hello, your name, at the top), then the Notifications tab. Choose the website, change what you want, and save. To use the same choices on every website you belong to, tick Apply to all my websites.
From any email: every Bread & Butter email ends with Manage email preferences. The link opens the same settings for that website, whether or not you're signed in.
Your choices are yours alone. Each person on an account sets their own, and a change applies from the next email.
The seven emails
Intelligence Brief
One email for each lead on your website, as soon as Bread & Butter has researched them. It's never bundled up: daily, weekly and monthly summaries are what the Roundup is for.
It's off when your account is created. Turn it on and choose how much each email includes:
- List (name and email): each new lead's name and email address, the moment they raise a hand.
- Intelligence Brief, new leads: the full Intelligence Brief for each new lead: who they are, what they read, what brought them, why they matter now and how to open the conversation.
- Intelligence Brief, new leads and return visits: the same, and again every time that lead comes back to your website, with the Brief brought up to date.
On the Free plan, leads aren't researched, so the List is the choice available. See The Intelligence Brief.
Roundup
The same email for everyone on the account, sales included:
- What's interesting on your website: the three to five things most worth knowing about the period, people and pages, each linking into Bread & Butter.
- Your top three leads: the people most worth a call right now, researched, each with one line on why this person, now, and a link to their profile.
- Lookalikes: people who have never visited but look like your best customers, when Lookalikes is on for your account and it found some in the period. See How Bread & Butter finds lookalikes of your best customers.
- Your sales reports: Leads we found for you, and Leads to follow up (who's worth a call right now, and who's going cold), each linked and ready to open in Bread & Butter, under Reports.
- Run your reports, or ask anything: the reports your role can run in your AI assistant, and how to connect it.
How often it can come depends on the plan:
| Plan | Roundup options |
|---|---|
| Free | Monthly |
| Trial and Pro | Weekly or Monthly |
| Pro Plus | Daily, Weekly or Monthly |
It's on, weekly by default, including during the trial. If your account moves to the Free plan, it becomes monthly, so you still hear what's happening on your website.
Reports
For Owners, Administrators and Marketers, because it covers the whole website: its traffic, campaigns, keywords, ads and spend. Sales gets its reports linked in the Roundup.
- Your Focused Ratio: how much of your traffic was worth having, how it moved, and how your website compares with the Bread & Butter network. See Understanding the Focused Rate and Focused CPM for paid traffic.
- What stands out: what changed on your website: the pages, sources and campaigns worth a look.
- Your reports: every ready-made report for the period, from the Report for Your Boss and Attribution & Leads to Ads Spend and the Old School Website Analytics. Each one opens in Bread & Butter, under Reports, where every past run is kept and you can download it or copy its link for someone else on your account.
About one person or one company: ask your AI assistant about a lead or a company and it builds an Intelligence Brief or a Company Intelligence report on the spot. These are never in the email, because each one is about someone in particular.
| Plan | Reports options |
|---|---|
| Free | Monthly |
| Pro | Monthly or Quarterly |
| Pro Plus | Weekly, Monthly or Quarterly |
It's on, monthly by default. During the trial, the Reports email comes once, on day 26, with everything your first weeks showed.
On the Free plan, the email still arrives each month with your classic website numbers. The Focused Ratio and the parts that need research show what you'd see on Pro.
Want a report more often, for one campaign, or changed to fit your team? On Pro Plus, your AI assistant can run any report whenever you like, or on its own schedule. See Bread & Butter MCP server connections and Run your Bread & Butter reports on a schedule.
Getting started
Help installing Bread & Butter, and what to expect in your first weeks. On by default; you can turn it off.
System
Trial and plan reminders, usage limits, form notifications and requests to join your account. On by default; you can turn it off.
Product updates
What's new in each release. On by default; you can turn it off.
Account alerts and billing
Tracking stopped on your website, invoices, receipts and failed payments. These are always on, because they're about your account working and being paid for.
Good to know
- Turning an email off keeps your choice. Turn the Intelligence Brief off for a week and back on, and it comes back with the same option you had.
- Options your plan doesn't include show with the plan that does, for example Daily on Pro Plus.
- A team invitation always arrives, whatever your settings, because it's how someone joins an account.
