Google Analytics (GA4)

The Bread & Butter + Google Analytics (GA4) integration allows you to trigger specific events in GA4 based on Bread & Butter activity. For example, when Bread & Butter identifies a user conversion, a corresponding "Key Event" can be recorded in your Google Analytics dashboard.

Step 1: Connect Google Analytics

To set up the integration, you first need to retrieve your credentials from Google Analytics and then enter them into Bread & Butter.

1. Get your Measurement ID & API Secret

    1. Log in to Google Analytics.
    2. Click Admin (gear icon) at the bottom left.
    3. Under Data collection and modification, click Data streams.

    4. Select your data stream from the list.
    5. Copy the Measurement ID (e.g., G-XXXXXXXXXX) and save it for later.
    6. Scroll down and click Measurement Protocol API secrets.

    7. Click Create.
    8. Enter a nickname for the secret and click Create.
    9. Copy the Secret Value and save it for later.

2. Add to Bread & Butter

    1. Log in to your Bread & Butter Dashboard.
    2. Click Automation > Integrations on the left side menu.
    3. Under the Integrations section, click on the Google Analytics logo to create a new integration.
    4. Enter a Name for the rule (optional, the default name will be 'GA4').
    5. Paste the Measurement ID and API Secret you retrieved in the previous steps.
    6. Click Save & Close.

Step 2: Set up Rules

To send data to GA4, you must first define the event in Google Analytics, and then create a Rule in Bread & Butter to trigger it.

1. Create a Key Event in GA4

  1. In Google Analytics, go to Admin > Data display > Events.
    1. Click Create event.

    2. Enter a custom event name (e.g., breadbutter_conversion) and configure your conditions.

      • Important: Mark this new event as a Key Event.
      • Note: It may take up to 24 hours for new events to appear in Google Analytics.

2. Create the Rule in Bread & Butter

    1. Go to Automation > Integrations on the left menu.
    2. Select the Google Analytics Integration you created in Part 1.
    3. Under the Rules section, choose the Filter Conditions that will trigger this rule (e.g., EVENT: Email Verified, LEAD SCORE: 6,7,8,9,10). You can manually refine the filter condition, or pick from the pre-configured filters that were previously saved for your account.
    4. Enter a Name for the rule.
    5. In the Key Event Name field, enter the exact name of the event you created in Google Analytics (e.g., breadbutter_conversion).
    6. Click Save & Close.

Your integration is now live! When the event occurs, the Event will automatically be created in GA4.
