Google Analytics (GA4)
The Bread & Butter + Google Analytics (GA4) integration allows you to trigger specific events in GA4 based on Bread & Butter activity. For example, when Bread & Butter identifies a user conversion, a corresponding "Key Event" can be recorded in your Google Analytics dashboard.
Step 1: Connect Google Analytics
To set up the integration, you first need to retrieve your credentials from Google Analytics and then enter them into Bread & Butter.
1. Get your Measurement ID & API Secret
- Log in to Google Analytics.
- Click Admin (gear icon) at the bottom left.
-
Under Data collection and modification, click Data streams.

- Select your data stream from the list.
- Copy the Measurement ID (e.g., G-XXXXXXXXXX) and save it for later.
-
Scroll down and click Measurement Protocol API secrets.

- Click Create.
- Enter a nickname for the secret and click Create.
- Copy the Secret Value and save it for later.
2. Add to Bread & Butter
- Log in to your Bread & Butter Dashboard.
- Click Automation > Integrations on the left side menu.
- Under the Integrations section, click on the Google Analytics logo to create a new integration.
- Enter a Name for the rule (optional, the default name will be 'GA4').
- Paste the Measurement ID and API Secret you retrieved in the previous steps.
- Click Save & Close.
Step 2: Set up Rules
To send data to GA4, you must first define the event in Google Analytics, and then create a Rule in Bread & Butter to trigger it.
1. Create a Key Event in GA4
- In Google Analytics, go to Admin > Data display > Events.
-
Click Create event.

-
Enter a custom event name (e.g.,
breadbutter_conversion) and configure your conditions.
- Important: Mark this new event as a Key Event.
- Note: It may take up to 24 hours for new events to appear in Google Analytics.
-
2. Create the Rule in Bread & Butter
- Go to Automation > Integrations on the left menu.
- Select the Google Analytics Integration you created in Part 1.
- Under the Rules section, choose the Filter Conditions that will trigger this rule (e.g., EVENT: Email Verified, LEAD SCORE: 6,7,8,9,10). You can manually refine the filter condition, or pick from the pre-configured filters that were previously saved for your account.
- Enter a Name for the rule.
- In the Key Event Name field, enter the exact name of the event you created in Google Analytics (e.g.,
breadbutter_conversion). - Click Save & Close.
Your integration is now live! When the event occurs, the Event will automatically be created in GA4.
