Connect Twillio Segment
Send new leads to Segment, so the rest of your stack knows who they are as soon as they become a lead.
In short: Bread & Butter sends an
identifycall to your Segment source whenever a lead reaches the trigger you set: a lead stage, or a funnel you've saved. The call carries the lead's details from the List, such as their name and email address, and Segment passes them on to whichever destinations you've connected there. You connect it with your source's Write Key. The List costs no credits, and Segment is available on the Free plan and the Pro plan.
Step 1: Get your Write Key from Segment
- Log in to your Segment Account at https://app.segment.com/login.
- Click Sources in the left menu.
- Select an existing source or create a new one.
- Click on the Settings tab for that source.
-
Select API Keys from the side menu.

- Copy the existing Write Key or create a new one.
Step 2: Create the integration in Bread & Butter
- In Bread & Butter, open Integrations and choose the Segment tile. If you already have integrations, click Add New first.
- Integration name: a name your team will recognize, like "Segment - Engaged Leads".
- Write Key: paste the key you copied from Segment.
- Trigger: choose which leads are sent, either a lead stage (Engaged Lead is the default) or a funnel you've saved.
- What to send: this shows List, the only option for Segment, so there's nothing to choose here.
- Click Save & close. The new integration appears on your Integrations page, with a switch to pause it at any time.
When Segment receives the lead
Each time a lead reaches your trigger, Bread & Butter sends an identify call to your Segment source straight away, with the lead's details from the List. Leads are only sent once we've captured their email address, and leads who were already in the stage or funnel when you saved the integration aren't sent; it acts on new arrivals from then on.
To send different audiences to different Segment sources, create one integration for each. For the full Intelligence Brief, with the research, scores and journey, use a Webhook instead.
