Install Bread & Butter on BigCommerce
BigCommerce gives you broader script coverage than most platforms we support, its Script Manager can run scripts on the checkout and order confirmation pages, not just the storefront. Bread & Butter connects the same simple way it connects to Google Analytics or HubSpot: one script, no plugin, added through Script Manager or your existing Google Tag Manager container.
In short: one script connects your BigCommerce store to Bread & Butter, no plugin and no developer required. It shows you who's a genuine buyer, not just a pageview, and which products or campaigns are actually driving qualified interest. It also picks up your native Contact Us form automatically. BigCommerce also stands out for allowing tracking scripts on checkout and order confirmation, more on what that means below.
Once it's running, Bread & Butter watches how real visitors move through your store, not just how many pages loaded. It identifies who's showing genuine buying intent, builds a profile of what they're interested in, and surfaces that to you as a ranked list of your best leads instead of a wall of traffic numbers. For a BigCommerce store, that means you can finally see which products, pages, or campaigns are actually driving qualified interest, and which ones are just generating clicks that go nowhere.
This also means you get broader visibility than on most platforms. Most page builders and ecommerce platforms block any tracking script from running once a visitor reaches checkout, for security reasons. BigCommerce is different, its Script Manager explicitly supports running scripts on the checkout and order confirmation pages, provided your store has Optimized One-Page Checkout enabled (the default for new stores, an easy toggle for older ones). Bread & Butter's script runs there the same way it runs everywhere else on your site, so you get continuous visibility rather than the drop-off other platforms create at the cart. Whether that translates into identifying a customer at checkout the same way our script identifies someone filling out a contact form depends on your specific setup, so treat this as expanded visibility rather than a guaranteed identification point.
Frequently asked questions for BigCommerce
Does this work on any BigCommerce plan? Yes. Script Manager, which is all the install requires, is available on every BigCommerce plan.
Will this interfere with BigCommerce Payments or my checkout? No. Bread & Butter's script never touches payment processing or card data, regardless of which pages it's set to run on.
Can you see who reaches checkout, or who abandons it? Bread & Butter tracks that a visitor reached the cart and, on stores with Optimized One-Page Checkout enabled, the script also runs on the checkout and order confirmation pages themselves. If a visitor identified themselves earlier in the visit, for instance by filling out the Contact Us form, you'll know who they are throughout their visit, including at checkout.
Do I need a developer to install this? No. It's the same copy-and-paste step you'd use to add Google Analytics, into BigCommerce's Script Manager.
Does this work with a custom domain, or only a mybigcommerce.com subdomain? Either. The tracking script is embedded in the page itself, so it works the same way regardless of what domain your store is published under.
Does this track my native Contact Us form too? Yes. If a visitor submits your Contact Us form, Bread & Butter identifies them and connects that to the rest of their browsing activity on your store.
Does BigCommerce have a native newsletter signup, like a coupon popup or refer-a-friend widget? Not built into the platform itself. Newsletter signup, coupon popups, and referral widgets on BigCommerce typically come from your theme or from apps in the BigCommerce App Marketplace, such as Klaviyo, Omnisend, or Elfsight. If you add one of these, the same tracking script picks up any email field a visitor fills out, the same way it does with your Contact Us form.
Bread & Butter Conversion Tools: If you'd rather not add a separate app, Bread & Butter also offers its own suite of optional Conversion Tools, floating lead capture forms with one-click social login, content gating for premium assets, and AI-triggered incentive popups, that plug directly into your Bread & Butter account, no separate app required. See our Conversion Tools overview for the full list.
What about abandoned cart emails? BigCommerce has a native abandoned cart saver that automatically emails shoppers who leave checkout before purchasing. It's available on the Plus plan and above, not the entry-level Standard plan.
What if my checkout runs on a separate domain or subdomain, possibly on different technology? This is common, for example a main site on WordPress with a store on a separate BigCommerce-hosted domain. Bread & Butter doesn't use cookies, it uses a GDPR-compliant identifier stored locally in the visitor's browser. Install the same tracking script on each domain, and Bread & Butter reconciles the activity into one visitor journey, even across different platforms.
