What is the True Focused CPM?

Traditional advertising platforms like Google Ads and Meta report a CPM based on raw impressions and clicks. However, this number includes automated bots, competitor scrapers, accidental clicks, and visitors with zero buying intent.

Bread & Butter calculates your True Focused CPM. We strip away all the invalid noise and calculate exactly how much you are paying to acquire 1,000 Focused Visitors—real humans who match your Ideal Customer Profile. Your True Focused CPM will always be higher than your platform-reported CPM, but it is the only accurate measure of your true acquisition cost.

Why am I seeing "Invalid Traffic" or bots in my paid campaigns?

It is a common misconception that paying for a click guarantees a real human. Unfortunately, click fraud is a massive problem across all ad networks. Your paid campaigns are regularly clicked by competitor bots, scrapers indexing your site, or click farms on audience networks. Bread & Butter’s engine acts as a Fraud Audit, identifying these fake clicks and isolating them under "Invalid Traffic" so you can immediately see which networks are wasting your budget.

What does the "Investigate" status mean on a keyword or channel?

We rank your paid channels and keywords relative to one another. The top third are labeled Scale, the middle third are labeled Watch, and the bottom third are marked for Investigate.

When a keyword is marked for investigation, it means it has a significantly higher Cost-per-Focused-Visitor than the rest of your campaigns. We do not automatically tell you to pause it, as there may be strategic reasons for keeping it running. However, we highly recommend your team reviews this keyword to determine if the budget is being spent efficiently.

What is a "Destination Leak"?

Sometimes an ad campaign isn't failing—your website is. The Destination Leak module tracks the relationship between a specific incoming keyword and the landing page the visitor is sent to. If we detect that a keyword generates high volumes of traffic, but the destination page has a terrible Engagement Score, we flag it as a leak. This tells your marketing team not to pause the keyword, but rather to redesign the landing page to better capture the visitor's intent.

How do Automated Budget Shifts work?

Instead of manually calculating where to move your money, Bread & Butter’s AI automatically analyzes your paid channels and keywords.

The system pairs your questionable keywords (those marked for "Investigate") with your most efficient keywords (those marked for "Scale"). It calculates exactly how many extra Focused Visitors you will gain—or how much budget you will save—by shifting the money.

Does Bread & Butter change my ad budgets automatically?

No. We believe your Ad Ops team should always have final control over your live campaigns. Bread & Butter acts as your strategic advisor. Once you review a recommended budget shift, you must log into Google Ads or Meta to physically make the budget change. Once complete, you return to Bread & Butter and click "I've applied the shift."

How do I know these shifts are working?

Every time you click "I've applied the shift," Bread & Butter logs that action as a milestone. In the Historical Impact section of your dashboard, you can view a timeline of your website's overall Focused Ratio compared to the Global Index over the last 6 to 12 months. This allows you to visually track exactly how your pipeline quality has climbed as a direct result of the budget optimizations you have applied.
