+ Social Logins Overview
When configuring Bread & Butter for your website, the first step is establishing your Global Conversion Methods. Think of it as your master template. The choices you make here set the baseline lead capture options available across your entire website.
Global Defaults vs. Widget-Level Overrides
The conversion methods you activate here will automatically drive the options shown on your content gates, subscribe windows, and conversion boosters. However, you are never locked in. You can always customize and override these global defaults on an individual widget level later.
For example: you might want to offer a standard email capture alongside Google and Microsoft for a top-of-funnel newsletter widget, but override those settings to strictly require a LinkedIn 1-click login for a high-value proprietary report.
Our goal is to help you build a high-quality pipeline by offering your visitors the most frictionless experience possible. Here is a breakdown of the three main categories of conversion methods and exactly when you should use them.
The 3 Email-Based Capture Options
While we highly recommend 1-click social connections, we know that offering a traditional email input is sometimes necessary. Bread & Butter gives you three distinct ways to handle email captures.
- Email (Email Captured): This is your standard text field. It captures the visitor's email alongside their first and last name. Don't worry, even with this basic field, we still perform real-time mailbox validation. Visitors won't be able to submit an email address for a mailbox that doesn't exist; they will be prompted to enter a valid email that actually links to an active inbox. When to use: Choose this for low-friction, top-of-funnel actions like a basic newsletter subscription where you just need to get them on a mailing list quickly.
- Email + Password + PIN (Profile Verified): This is the traditional account creation route. It requires the user to generate a password and confirm ownership by entering a PIN sent directly to their inbox, while also capturing their first and last name. When to use: Choose this when you want a fully verified profile and an absolute guarantee that the visitor in fact owns and has active access to the mailbox they provided. It is ideal when you need the exact same level of verification as a social login account, but for users who prefer to use a traditional email credential.
- Sign-in link (Profile Verified): This acts as a passwordless "magic link". The user enters their email, and we send a secure link directly to their inbox to verify their identity, capturing their first and last name in the process. When to use: This is perfect for users who hesitate to use their social accounts but still want to avoid password fatigue. It guarantees you are capturing a verified profile with a real, actively monitored inbox that is accessible by the current visitor.
Social Logins: The 1-Click Gold Standard
Social connections are the ultimate conversion booster. Instead of forcing visitors to type out their information, invent new passwords, or wait for confirmation emails, they simply connect using an account they are already logged into on their browser.
The Benefits:
- Zero Friction: The entire conversion process drops to a single click, which drastically increases your conversion volume.
- 100% Verified Data: You instantly eliminate "test@test.com" junk data. You capture real, verified profiles that your sales team can actually trust.
- Effortless Setup: Turning on social capture options like Microsoft, Google, Facebook, or LinkedIn is incredibly easy.
Enterprise Logins
Enterprise Logins allow you to connect directly with corporate identity providers like Microsoft, Okta, Google, and Onelogin. These are reserved for highly secure areas and force the users to enter their enterprise SSO to gain access. When to use: Reserve this strictly for high-security areas, such as a dedicated customer portal or a paid membership tier where robust, traditional credentialing is required.
Understanding Setup Modes
When you are ready to configure these options on your dashboard, here is how the rollout process works:
- Production-Ready: Your standard 'Email' capture methods are fully active and ready for production immediately.
- Sandbox Mode: To help you instantly test your widgets, Google, Microsoft, and LinkedIn are pre-configured in a Sandbox Mode. Before going live, you will need to link your own provider credentials so they display your company's branding.
- Direct & Enterprise Connections: All other social & enterprise connections (like Facebook, Slack, or X) are available immediately on the free tier, but do not have a sandbox mode. They require you to connect your company's accounts from the start.
Moving from Sandbox to Production: Branding Your Social & Enterprise Logins
When you first set up Bread & Butter, Google, Microsoft, and LinkedIn are pre-configured in Sandbox Mode. This allows you to instantly test your conversion widgets on your staging site without any technical setup.
However, before you push your widgets live to real visitors, you need to transition these out of the sandbox. If you don't, your visitors will see Bread & Butter's branding on the authentication screen instead of yours. To maximize trust and conversion rates, your buyers need to see your logo when they click to connect.
