When you are building your Bread & Butter widgets, you have several options for how you want to capture visitor data. The Email (Email Captured) option provides a standard, reliable text field experience for your users.

While 1-click social connections (like Google or Microsoft) offer the absolute highest conversion rates, providing a traditional email input ensures you capture visitors who prefer to type their information manually.

Here is an overview of how the standard Email capture option works and the best strategic times to use it.

What Data It Captures

The standard Email option is designed to be simple and straightforward. When a visitor uses this method, the system will automatically prompt them for and capture:

  • Their Email Address
  • Their First Name
  • Their Last Name

Built-In Real-Time Validation & AI Enrichment

This ensures your CRMs and mailing lists stay perfectly clean, actionable, and free of junk data.

1. Mailbox Validation Don't worry about spam or fake inputs. Even with this basic text field, Bread & Butter automatically performs real-time mailbox validation in the background. Visitors will not be able to submit an email address for a mailbox that doesn't exist (for example, test@test.com  or a random keyboard smash like asdf@gmail.com ). If a visitor attempts to enter a fake or dead email address, the system will immediately prompt them to enter a valid email that actually links to an active, reachable inbox.

2. AI Profile Enrichment What happens if your widget doesn't ask for a name (like a quick "Subscribe" widget), or if the user simply decides not to enter one? Our system steps in. Using our built-in AI Enrichment feature, Bread & Butter will automatically work in the background to find and append the first and last name associated with that email address. This means in most cases you still get complete, personalized lead profiles without adding any extra friction to the sign-up process!

When to Use It

This dictates the best strategic placement for this conversion option.

We highly recommend prioritizing the standard Email capture option for low-friction, top-of-funnel actions. Because it is a familiar, low-commitment step for users, it is perfect for scenarios where you just need to get them onto a mailing list quickly.

Best use cases include:

  • Basic newsletter subscriptions
  • Unlocking top-of-funnel content (like a short PDF guide or checklist)
  • General "Contact Us" inquiries
